BANGLA BUFE

Saturday, I realized my Bengali is still much better than my Hungarian.

It was on a way to Night museum. After I walked about 10 minutes, I found a restaurant named Bangla Bufe. It reminded me of Bangladesh, my sweet country. From February to April in 2006, I spent 2 month there. I was 19 years old. Although 2 and half year have past, I still remember some Bengali words. Saying ASSARAAMU ARAIKUMU, which is a greeting for Muslim, I decided to pretend to be a Bengali boy. I took a seat.

I tried to say KAMONACHO which means how are you in Bengali, on the contrary I found myself said HOGY VAGY means how are you in Hungarian. When I was about to say DONNOBATTO which means thank you in Bengali, unintentionally I used KOSZNOM SZEPAN instead of it. It means thank you in Hungarian. Probably I was there for 1 hour or more, but it was always like that. I was too mixed up. Some part of synapse of my brain was trying to find some Hungarian words. Some of them aimed to remember Bengali. Also others were still busy for English.

There were 3 clerks who can speak English, Hungarian plus Bengali. Their pronunciation is really great. It was not like you usually imagine Indian English. They were so surprised and said they were very happy since I came. They got happy enough to give me two Bengali homemade sweets (MISHUTI) for free. That made me really happy. I don’t think I can find a word to explain this emotion, but it was a kind of feeling like a reunion to your old friends. In just 3 minutes, we totally became friends or more.

People in Bangladesh are really friendly, or I can say sometimes they are too friendly. I love the atmosphere. Bangla Bufe so clearly reminded me my friends in Bangladesh. I really appreciate my friends for having taught me Bengali every time. Thanks to them, I had a good time in Budapest.

We sang along Bengali national anthem together.

It's not so good pic. i should take another shot.

ONEEK DONNOBATTO. ABAARU, AMI BESHI BESHI BONDDU EKUSHATE, APUNAL BANGRA BUFE SHOTTI DEKA HOBE. (thank you very much. I'm eager to visit your restaurant again with a lot of friends).

Hoping this sort of reunion come again somewhere, I keep trying Hungarian.

Glad to hear that you had a great time in Bangladesh.
It seems that people in Bangladesh are even friendlier than you have expected.
When I was in Japan, I felt Japanese people very friendly.
Can you tell me is the Bengali style the same as the Japanese? Or, say, they express their friendliness in a different way?

@春修さん
アパートや会社のまわりでは、アジア人けっこうすくないっすね。もちろん、いないことはないですし、観光客はたくさんいますが。
たまに駅で、子どもに笑われます。顔じろーっと見られたりとか。ニコっとしてやるんですけど、あんまり気持ちのいいもんじゃないっすね。
